The most likely reason for critical damage to the sensor is damage in shipping. The unit MUST be shipped in an approved box available from the OEM or Regional Avionics Repair LLC.
The AHC-85/85E is a precision aircraft sensor, easily damaged by mishandling. Sensor operation is based on the use of piezoelectric accelerometers. Each sensor contains four miniature piezoelectric elements mounted on a spinning wheel.
